My progress in meditation

In our busy lives we often find excuses and reasons to bypass the important things in life. We can easily loose sight of the priority to maintain our health and mind. When we allow life to happen to us, we get lost in the illusions of the outside world. We are no longer able to help ourselfs or others because we have no concept of stability and being grounded. Taking 5 mins at a time, every morning before our mind sets into the daily routines, will allow for more centeredness and clarity of thinking.

In my own life, I never thought that I could discipline myself to sit and meditate for any amount of time per day. I was once a person with too many things to do and too many places to go in order to alot time to myself. I starting slowly, waking up 10 minutes earlier and going to my same small corner to sit quietly for 5 minutes. When my mind would wander, I would concentrate on my breath, inhaling the sound of "OM" in my mind, and exhaling the instructions to "LET GO...". I would set a timer to go off after 5minutes. After I felt comfortable enough with 5minutes, I would set the timer to 10mins, concentrating on the breath and my mental instruction to "Let go...".

I know find time to devote 30-40 minutes a day to clear my mind. I cannot describe how helpful this has been in maintaining stronger health and a clearer mind throughout the day. I recommend anyone who would like to feel more at peace and more centered to try this same exercise.

Namaste.

Sustainable beginnings

Your approach for beginning was great... 5 minutes at a time. I co-facilitate a series of workshops with my colleague, an MD-Psychotherapist, called "15-Minute Beginnings" and we discuss exactly that, beginning with only 15 minutes or less of a desired activity in self-care per day, whether that's meditation, yoga, writing, listening to music, etc.

Bravo for giving yourself those simple beginnings that led you to a steady practice. Great advice for any beginners to hear, much less daunting!

meditation

I too have started waking up earlier and practicing diligently for a few days now, it was only sporadic but I made a promise to myself, and I also was assigned this time on the mat as homework in my teacher training. I am so happy and it feels wonderful, and its only been a few days. What a beautiful way to start the day, especially with this lovely spring weather we've been having. Enjoy, I wish you continued peace, don't forget to open the windows and let the birdsongs greet you as well...

timing

Just curious if you, or anyone else reading, finds there is a best time of day for your meditation practice? first thing in the morning? to end the day? in the middle of the chaos?? Should it be the same time of day all the time? Or anytime you can spare is better than none... Would love to hear thoughts on this :)
